SEG Solar Undertakes Strategic Indonesia Visit to Advance R&D Partnerships for Clean Energy Transformation
Recently, SEG Solar (“SEG”), a leading U.S. solar module manufacturer, conducted a three-day strategic visit to leading research institutions in Jakarta and Bandung, Indonesia. The visit was led by Dr. Shehroz Razzaq, Senior PV Expert and Head of the SEG Global PV R&D Center, underscoring SEG’s commitment to supporting Indonesia’s clean energy transition by exploring collaborative R&D opportunities and aligning its technological capabilities with the country’s long-term energy development priorities.
During the visit, Dr. Shehroz Razzaq met with several leading Indonesian research institutions to explore opportunities in solar technology innovation, industrial application, and talent development—thereby supporting the alignment of SEG’s regional expansion and R&D efforts with real-world needs in the Indonesian market.
Key meetings included engagements with the Indonesia Solar Energy Research Centre (ISEREC), a joint initiative between Singapore and Indonesia and a key institution responsible for advancing Indonesia’s national solar research and policy alignment. The talks focused on long-term strategic synergy and industry–technology integration, aligning ISEREC’s research capabilities with SEG’s industrial expertise.

Dr. Shehroz Razzaq also visited the Research Organization for Electronics and Informatics (OREI) under Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), a leading national body dedicated to advancing applied research and innovation in electronics and informatics. Discussions focused on strengthening industry–academia integration, accelerating practical technology deployment, and establishing a sustainable ecosystem for technology transfer and talent development.

At the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB)—Southeast Asia’s leading institution for photovoltaics research—the teams explored joint initiatives in next-generation silicon-perovskite tandem cell development, including pilot-line validation and performance benchmarking for commercial readiness.

SEG is planning to establish the SEG Global PV Research Institute (“SPRI”) in Indonesia, and the visit further strengthened the foundation for its development. SPRI aims to drive product innovation, support localization strategies, and foster a pipeline of technical talent to serve both Indonesia and international markets.

Dr. Shehroz Razzaq emphasized: “This visit is expected to open research collaboration with Indonesia’s leading institutes in the solar industry, enabling us to translate cutting-edge R&D into applications. By aligning their scientific strengths with SEG’s industrial capabilities, this partnership will accelerate the commercialization of next-generation PV technologies, support our planned gigawatt-scale manufacturing in Indonesia, and cultivate a skilled talent pipeline—driving tangible progress in making solar energy more efficient, accessible, and scalable for the future of renewable energy.”
